17.3% of Alabama's 1.9 million workers are employed in the manufacturing sector. Traditionally heavy in agriculture, forestry and textiles, the state is adding many high-tech and aerospace jobs. Sanmina-SCI Corp. and Boeing are both major employers here with huge plants in Huntsville. Westpoint Stevens and Tyson Foods each have nine Alabama plants and apparel manufacturer Russell Corp. has six.
